Girls who go to school not only marry later, but have half as many children than illiterate women, and their children are healthier and better educated. Lauren Bush

Honorary Spokesperson for the UN World Food Programme

"FEED is a project I initiated to help fight child hunger. For the past 3 years I have been an Honorary Spokesperson for the UN World Food Program (WFP), which is the food-aid arm of the UN humanitarian forces.

Throughout my time as a volunteer, I have gotten to travel to 7 countries around the world (Guatemala, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Chad, Lesotho, Tanzania, and Honduras) that are all receiving food aid from WFP. The people I have met during my travels struggle each day to obtain one of the most basic human needs--food. It breaks my heart to think that every 5 seconds a child dies needlessly of hunger and malnutrition."

"But the most hopeful thing I have seen during my travels is WFP's school feeding program, where kids are given a lunch meal in school each day. This is incentive enough for kids to attend school when they might not normally, and the meal is nutritious enough for kids to stay healthy and engaged in their studies. It is truly inspiring to see kids, who are born into extreme poverty, in school eager to learn and improve their lives!" .
World Food Programme FEED Bag "The FEED bag is a sturdy, reversible bag made out of natural burlap and cotton materials. The design of the bag was inspired by the big bags of food that I have seen being distributed to schools around the world. Besides being a cool bag, it is a tangible way to make a difference in the fight against child hunger. Every FEED bag sold will feed a child for a whole year in school!
Thank you for your support of the FEED project! With your help we will be making a big difference in children's lives around the world, one child at a time. So wear your bag with pride!"

1 out of 5 stars Why did I think this was a Whole Foods Market bag??   February 12, 2010

I was bragging about this bag to my friends but when I showed them the logo, it was WFP and not WFM. It looks so similar to the ones that WFM sells, doesn't it?? If they HAD to use "WFP" as their logo, they could have made the bag look totally different from WFM's. I think this is sort of copying and using someone else's idea. Just slightly escaped from the legal issues...

Also, if you see the logo on the side pocket, WFP, it is not properly printed. It's not in the middle, and it's even tilted!! How unprofessional...

And the burlap dust gets on all over my coat and other clothes!!! They kind of burrow into the fabrics that it is really hard to get rid of. Don't buy it...

5 out of 5 stars World Food Programme bag   January 31, 2010

Really sturdy bag - reversible from burlap to natural cotton duck, with logos on both fabrics. Handle is a good length; I can put it over my shoulder easily, but the handles are not so long that the weight of the bag is below my comfortable carrying point. Bag is big enough to hold about a brown paper bag's worth of groceries, and the bag is sturdy enough to hold a heavy load.

Love the idea that buying the bag helps feed the hungry. And it's an advertisement I'm proud to carry and publicize.

4 out of 5 stars Heavy duty and big. Great cause.   January 29, 2010

From the description: "Your purchase of the World Food Programme FEED bag feeds one child in school for one school year." So, you can proudly carry your bag as a reminder to yourself that you have helped someone through your purchase. No need to put the new tote on hold, buy it now. You are also helping the environment if you are using this as a tote for shopping. It is a well constructed large tote. This was shipped in a shipping bag and the tote was quite wrinkled. Not that big of a deal, but just thought I'd mention it.

5 out of 5 stars Best Gift EVER   January 23, 2010

I highly recommend this as a gift for birthdays, holidays, etc... I gave it to all my girlfriends this year and they all loved them. If it is someone whom you want to spend more on then just fill up the bag with extra stuff! Also, if you just purchase 1 it is $35 but when I purchased 4 at a time the price dropped to $23. The main thing is that only $20 goes to the WFP so anything more you pay is for advertising (I think).
